Madagascar reopening borders in Oct’2021

GRADUAL AND SECURE REOPENING OF MADAGASCAR’S BORDERS

Security: the watchword for the reopening.

The reopening of Madagascar’s borders will first be partial and then progressive.

Air Austral and Air Mauritius will respectively operate regional flights linking Madagascar to Reunion and Mauritius as of October 23, 2021.

Note: Flights from/to Mauritius are suspended from November 27th, 2021.

Flights from Europe to Antananarivo operated by Air Madagascar and Air France will resume on November 6, 2021

Considering the evolution of the health situation in the world and, consequently, to ensure the safety of tourists and the local population, countries are classified in 2 categories: «red» and «green».

Only travelers coming from «green» countries will be allowed to enter the Malagasy national territory.

Countries classified as «red» are those having a community transmission rate of more than 300 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week with a spread of variants, which are of concern for Madagascar.

In addition, the current travel conditions require the following mandatory measures:

– Presentation of a negative result of an Rt-PCR test performed 72 hours before boarding;

– Presentation of 2 nights hotel booking certification and proof of payment of a hotel room for at least 1 night for self-isolation; List of hotels is here.

– Performing a Rt-PCR test upon arrival in Madagascar, at the traveler’s expense (25 euros);

– The airport-hotel transfer is provided by an approved shuttle, at the traveler’s expense;

– Presentation of a letter of commitment to stay in self-isolation until the test result is obtained;

– The completion of a travel tracking form after the self-isolation period;

– In case of a positive result to the Rt-PCR test on arrival, a 14-day self-isolation will be implemented, at the traveler’s expense;

The Antananarivo Ivato airport, where all hygiene protocols are in place, will receive passengers upon landing.

Charter flights from Europe to Nosy Be are also allowed as well as cruise ships.

In its strategy to reopen the borders, the authorities are ensuring that the hygiene protocols developed by the National Tourism Board (ONTM), on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and in partnership with the Confederation of Tourism (CTM), are put in place at all levels in order to ensure a pleasant and safe stay for tourists visiting Madagascar.
