We had an unforgettable experience, From the first e-mail Haja and his team were extremely responsive, flexible and attentive.

We are a family of 6, with ages spreading from 8 to 51, and arranging the tour was a great challenge well met by Asisten.

While in Madagascar all the arrangements worked out perfectly, if any problem arose (like flight delay) we had an immediate compensating arrangement.

The guides were excellent, very knowledgeable, with very good English, lot’s of patience needed for a big family and extremely helpful.

The itinerary was an excellent mix of scenery, fauna, flora, culture and leisure. The Hotels were very well chosen.

I wish we will have an opportunity to get back to Madagascar and use Asisten Travel services again.

In November 2014 we completed a two week trip to Madagascar.  Our local arrangements were made by Asisten Travel, a local tour operator that specializes in English visitors and was recommended in the Bradt guide.  We were extremely pleased with our choice.  After some email exchanges to ascertain our visit window and our main interests, they put together an excellent itinerary that made good use of our time and covered all the things we wanted to experience (mainly Lemurs, Baobabs, Tsingy).  They selected excellent hotels and, although our itinerary required two short flights on Air Madagascar (notorious for schedule changes) they did a great job of keeping us updated on changes in departure times.

We saw many species of lemurs, including brown, bamboo, ring-tailed, and ruffed, as well as both Verreaux’s and diademed sifakas.  Our favorite experience was seeing the Indri in Andasibe National Park and hearing their eerie song.  Since it was  November,  there were many babies that entertained us with their little leaping practices.  We also enjoyed the opportunity to see a number of species up close on the little lemur island at Vakona Forest Lodge.

Our beginning of November timing also allowed us to include a visit to the Tsingy de Bemaraha before the rains and when it is less crowded than during June-August.

You certainly need a sense of adventure and a great deal of patience for the all-day drive from Morondava to Bekopa with its two ferry crossings.  The road was every bit as bad as in all the descriptions, and we were glad that Thierry, our driver, clearly had a lot of experience on this route.  In the end we felt that the trip was worth it and we enjoyed our two days hiking the Tsingy and having a pirogue trip up the river.

For most of our trip our driver did a wonderful job of enlivening the long drives by drawing our attention to differences in the architecture, behavior, and traditions of whichever ethnic group we were driving through.  In addition to all the regular tourist stops, we made numerous roadside pauses to observe activities such as rice cultivation and brick  making, see charcoal burners and ancestral tombs, and examine (and sample) local produce.  We still remember the delicious sausages and fritters we had when we passed through Ambanitsena on our way back from Andasibe.  All in all he made the cultural aspect of our trip far exceed our expectations.

Your company is also very distinguished from many other tour operators in a unique way. Many tour operators ask for extra once we started travel, and price typically goes up if there is any route modifications. The truth is that the route may get modified as a client learns and adjusts to what he sees on the road, sometimes such a change leads to a slightly higher cost, while others may lead to a lower cost, but the operator always asks for more if the adjustment leads to higher cost but never says anything otherwise. Your company, however, looks at the larger picture…. This makes the trip much more enjoyable, and demonstrates that the company really wants to be a first class tour company (great to see!).
